Adutwum Slams Bawumia, Rejects “So-Called Apology”

September 16, 2025

New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful and former Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has dismissed an apology recently rendered by Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, former Vice President and the NPP’s 2024 presidential candidate, describing it as hollow and insincere.

In a radio interview monitored by vistanewsgh.com, Dr. Adutwum questioned the relevance of Dr. Bawumia’s apology to Ghanaians, arguing that the former Vice President had failed to explain what exactly he was apologising for.

“What is he apologising about? Didn’t he say he was the economic messiah? What has changed? What did he do wrong? Has he been able to tell you what he did wrong?” Dr. Adutwum asked.

Positioning himself as a stronger contender in the NPP’s flagbearership race, Dr. Adutwum stressed that unlike Dr. Bawumia, he has no regrets about his performance in government.

“I performed my role excellently and so I am not part of the so-called apology. I was in Sefwi Wiawso Methodist Church and the pastor boldly hailed me, saying as for STEM education, it is for Dr. Adutwum. I cannot apologise for doing something good,” he said.

The former Education Minister, credited with spearheading Ghana’s STEM education agenda, also challenged Dr. Bawumia to highlight his tangible achievements as head of the Economic Management Team during his tenure.

“Did Bawumia mention what he did right? That is the question Ghanaians must ask,” Dr. Adutwum stated.

The exchange underscores the mounting tension within the NPP as both Dr. Bawumia and Dr. Adutwum vie for the party’s 2028 presidential ticket. Analysts say the open confrontation signals an intensifying leadership contest, with the economy likely to remain the central battleground in the party’s internal debates.
