July 12,2026
Foreign Affairs Minister Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has announced that The Bahamas will recruit 300 Ghanaian teachers this year under a newly negotiated bilateral labour mobility agreement aimed at strengthening educational cooperation between the two countries.
The announcement followed high-level discussions held during Mr. Ablakwa's visit to The Bahamas, where he represented President John Dramani Mahama at the country's 53rd Independence Anniversary celebrations.
Sharing the news in a Facebook post on Saturday, July 11, Mr. Ablakwa described the initiative as the beginning of a broader education partnership.
"I am delighted to announce that following official negotiations, The Bahamas is ready to receive 300 Ghanaian teachers this year to strengthen its education sector," he stated.
He explained that the agreement builds on the outstanding reputation Ghanaian professionals have earned in The Bahamas, particularly nurses who are already serving under an existing bilateral arrangement.
According to the Minister, Bahamian authorities have commended the dedication, professionalism, and strong work ethic of Ghanaian nurses, creating an opportunity to extend labour cooperation into the education sector.
"The recruitment of 300 Ghanaian teachers marks the beginning of a new chapter in labour mobility between our two countries, expanding cooperation beyond healthcare," he said.
Mr. Ablakwa also conveyed President Mahama's appreciation to Bahamian Prime Minister Philip Edward Davis for inviting Ghana to participate in the independence celebrations and reaffirmed both nations' commitment to deepening diplomatic and economic ties.
Highlighting the shared heritage between the two countries, the Minister noted that a significant number of Bahamians trace their ancestral roots to Ghana, describing the relationship as one founded on enduring historical and cultural connections.
He reaffirmed the government's commitment to pursuing diplomacy that creates employment opportunities and delivers tangible benefits for Ghanaians while strengthening international partnerships.
