First Batch of 121 Beneficiaries Under Labour Export Programme Departs Ghana for Antigua and Barbuda

January 26, 2026

The first batch of 121 Ghanaian health professionals has departed the country for Antigua and Barbuda under the government’s Labour Export Programme, marking a significant milestone in Ghana’s skills export initiative.

The beneficiaries, who will be working on three-year contracts, are expected to provide essential services in midwifery, mental health, and general healthcare within the Caribbean nation’s health system.

The departure took place on Monday, January 26, 2026, with the group boarding a chartered flight amid supervision by relevant authorities. The programme aims to create employment opportunities for skilled Ghanaians while strengthening international cooperation and contributing to foreign exchange inflows through remittances.

Officials say the Labour Export Programme is designed to match Ghana’s skilled workforce with global demand, particularly in critical sectors such as healthcare, where Ghana continues to produce trained professionals with internationally competitive standards.

The initiative is also expected to ease unemployment pressures at home while enhancing Ghana’s reputation as a reliable source of skilled labour abroad.

Government authorities have indicated that additional batches of beneficiaries will be deployed to other partner countries in the coming months as the programme expands.
