Police Inspector Sentenced to Life for Murdering Girlfriend in Kumasi

October 25, 2025

A High Court in Kumasi has sentenced Police Inspector Ahmed Twumasi to life imprisonment for the murder of his girlfriend, 26-year-old Victoria Dapaah, popularly known as Maadwoa.

The verdict, delivered on Friday, October 24, 2025, concluded a case that shocked the nation when the trusted law enforcement officer used his service rifle to kill the woman he was in a relationship with.

Inspector Twumasi was found guilty of shooting Victoria Dapaah multiple times in the abdomen and chest at close range on April 20, 2023, in Adum, Kumasi. The jury returned a 5-2 guilty verdict.

The young woman, described by friends as ambitious and full of life, died from her injuries in what prosecutors characterized as a cold-blooded murder.

Following the shooting incident, police launched a special operation that led to Twumasi's arrest on April 23, 2023, at Sekyere, near Effiduase in the Ashanti Region.

In court, Inspector Twumasi stood motionless as the judge pronounced the life sentence.

The verdict brought relief to Maadwoa's family, who view the life sentence as a necessary measure of justice for their daughter.

"While the life sentence cannot return a beloved daughter and friend to her family, it sends a message that no one is above the law," court observers noted.

The defense counsel has one month to file an appeal against the conviction and sentence.

The case has raised concerns about domestic violence and abuse of power by law enforcement officers entrusted with protecting citizens.
