A wave of compassion has swept through the Abura Asebu Kwamankese (AAK) Constituency of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), as a total of GH¢236,831 has been raised to support Comrade Nicholas Mensah’s hip surgery, thanks to massive contributions from party leaders, supporters, and market women.
Among the notable contributors is Nana Ama Kum I, privately known as Professor Nana Ama Browne Klutse, who made a generous donation of GH¢100,000.The Member of Parliament for Abura Asebu Kwamankese and Minister for Government Communications, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who donated GH¢130,000, effectively settling the remaining cost of the surgery.
Other party executives, including the Constituency Chairman, grassroots supporters, and traders particularly women at the Edumfa Market also contributed various sums toward the cause, demonstrating strong solidarity within the NDC family.
Speaking in an emotional interview with Vistanewsgh.com, Nicholas Mensah expressed profound gratitude to all friends and party faithfuls especially Professor Browne Klutse and Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, describing their support as lifesaving.
“Last week, Prof Nana Ama visited and gave me GH¢100,000. Three days later, Hon. Felix called and told me to send whatever money I had to the hospital and let him know the balance. When I did, the remaining amount was GH¢130,000, and he paid it,” he recounted.
He also praised the women of Edumfa Market especially Sister Rachel Appiatse for their generosity, saying their support showed genuine love and concern.
Nicholas Mensah disclosed that he has already begun his medical process and is close to undergoing surgery.
“I have started my medicals. I’ve done most of the lab tests and by Saturday I will complete the rest and proceed with the surgery,” he said, adding that only a few minor items remain to be purchased.
Reflecting on his condition, he explained that he had initially underestimated the seriousness of his injury, having relied on funds from his mobile money business to manage the situation.
“When the incident happened, I used my MoMo money because I thought it would solve it, not knowing it was serious. The doctor even said if not for the MoMo business...which doesn’t require much physical work...he wouldn’t have advised me to continue the surgery,” he revealed.
Nicholas Mensah concluded by thanking the media, the NDC family, and all individuals who contributed in diverse ways to his recovery journey.
He also appealed for prayers as he continues with the medical procedure. When asked about his hopes after recovery, Nicholas Mensah told Vistanewsgh.com that he intends to revive his collapsed mobile money business once he regains full strength, adding that he would require the continued support of comrades and well-wishers in order to be able to survive after his recovery.
The fundraising effort has been widely praised as a powerful demonstration of unity, compassion, and collective responsibility within the NDC, with many describing it as a true example of politics with humanity.
