Agony and Abandonment: NDC Youth Organiser Left to Suffer as MP Felix Kwakye Ofosu and DCE Wardy Fail to Act
January 22,2026
An NDC Youth Organiser in the Abura Asebu Kwamankese Constituency of the Central Region, Nicholas Mensah, has been left in agony and despair after allegedly being abandoned by party executives, the Member of Parliament and Minister for Government Communications Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and the District Chief Executive Hon. Daniel Mensah Wardy, after he was used to run errands during the party’s 2024 general election campaign and subsequently suffered a life-threatening accident that has left his leg badly damaged and in urgent need of surgery.
Mr Mensah, a grassroots party activist, was involved in a tragic road accident on March 6, 2025, when he was knocked down by a waste management truck. The accident left him with a severe leg injury that has since deteriorated significantly, with doctors estimating that about US$20,000 is needed for urgent surgery and treatment.
Ahead of the 2024 general elections, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu is said to have distributed motorbikes to support party activities in the constituency, one of which was given to Mr Mensah and has remained in his custody.
Following the accident, the matter was reportedly escalated to the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, who referred it to the Central Regional Minister. The Regional Minister subsequently passed the case on to the Central Regional Political Coordinator, who facilitated Mr Mensah’s admission to the Central Regional Hospital. Due to the severity of his condition, he was later referred to the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital for specialist care. However, hope soon turned to despair since they said the amount involved is above their limit.
In an interview, a close relative of the injured youth organiser disclosed that the NDC Central Regional Party Office indicated that the cost of treatment was beyond its financial threshold, leaving the family stranded and desperate.
“The doctors fixed a date for the surgery, but that date has passed because we couldn’t raise the money,” the relative lamented.
The family further claimed that although assurances were allegedly exchanged between the MP and the District Chief Executive (DCE), Hon. Wardy, no concrete support has so far been delivered, forcing Mr Mensah to continue enduring severe pain while his condition worsens.
“We are begging the MP, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, and the DCE, Hon. Wardy, to come to our aid and help resolve this matter,” the relative appealed.
The situation has sparked outrage among some party supporters in the constituency, who say a loyal grassroots activist should not be left to suffer after serving the party.
As at the time of filing this report, neither the MP nor the DCE had publicly responded to the claims.
