Ayariga Says NDC Will Defeat Bawumia Despite Rebranding Efforts
February 4,2026
Majority Leader and Bawku Central MP, Mahama Ayariga, has reiterated that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is confident of defeating former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia in any future presidential election, insisting that Ghanaians will judge him by his record in government rather than attempts at political rebranding.
Addressing Parliament, Mr Ayariga said the experiences of citizens under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration would influence voter decisions. He explained that his decision to wear white in the chamber was symbolic, noting that while he joined the NPP in celebrating Dr Bawumia’s victory in the party’s primaries, he remains optimistic about an NDC win in the 2028 elections.
Dr Bawumia emerged victorious in the NPP presidential primaries held on January 31, 2026, securing 56.48 per cent of the votes, ahead of Kennedy Agyapong who obtained 42.08 per cent.
