Ghana, Zambia Revive Joint Commission, Sign 10 MOUs Including Visa-Free Travel Agreement

January 6,2026

Ghana and Zambia have revitalised the Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC), ushering in a renewed, structured, and results-oriented framework to deepen bilateral relations across key priority sectors.

The renewed cooperation covers strategic areas including trade and investment, energy, tourism, mining, agriculture, education, science and technology, youth development, and defence cooperation.

As part of the revitalisation process, the two countries signed ten Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) to serve as the operational framework for enhanced collaboration. A major highlight of the agreements is an MOU allowing visa-free travel for all categories of passport holders between Ghana and Zambia.

The visa-free arrangement is expected to significantly boost people-to-people relations, business exchanges, tourism, and cultural cooperation, while also advancing Africa’s broader agenda of continental integration and free movement.

The development marks a major step forward in strengthening South-South cooperation and reinforces the shared commitment of both nations to Pan-African ideals and economic partnership.

The agreements were concluded during high-level bilateral engagements in Zambia, underscoring the renewed political will of both governments to translate diplomatic ties into tangible development outcomes.
