January 28,2026
Five aspirants have been officially cleared to contest the upcoming Ayawaso East parliamentary primary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following a successful vetting exercise held in Accra.
The vetting took place at the party’s Greater Accra Regional Office, after which the aspirants balloted for their positions on the ballot ahead of the primary scheduled for February 7, 2026.
The cleared candidates, in the order in which they balloted, are Mohammed Ramme, the NDC Constituency Chairman; Amina Adam, widow of the late Member of Parliament for Ayawaso East; Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed, Ghana’s High Commissioner to Nigeria; Yakubu Azindow; and Najib Mohammed.
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, January 28, the NDC Greater Accra Regional Secretary, Theophilus Tetteh Chaie, praised the aspirants for their cooperation and discipline throughout the vetting process.
He urged the candidates to conduct their campaigns responsibly and in line with the party’s values to ensure a peaceful and credible primary.
“We have admonished them to go into the constituencies to do their needful by campaigning and ensuring that the right things are being done, so that what we started from the beginning will end successfully,” Mr. Chaie stated.
The Ayawaso East primary is expected to attract keen interest as the NDC prepares to select a candidate to represent the constituency in future parliamentary elections.
