September 29, 2025 Former Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu has emerged as the frontrunner in the race to become the National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate for the 2028 elections, according to a new poll by Global Info Analytics.
The survey, released today, shows Iddrisu commanding 30% support among potential NDC flagbearer aspirants, positioning him as the clear favorite in the early stages of what promises to be a competitive selection process.
Former President of the Ghana Football Association, Asiedu Nketia, trails in second place with 24% support, while former Information Minister Ato Forson garnered 18% of respondents' backing. Rounding out the top four is Julius Debrah, who secured 10% support in the poll.
The results suggest a fragmented field with no single candidate approaching the majority threshold, indicating that the eventual nominee may emerge after significant campaigning and party deliberations.
Haruna Iddrisu, who served as Minority Leader in Ghana's Parliament, brings extensive legislative experience to his potential candidacy. His leadership during crucial parliamentary debates and his visibility as a key opposition voice may be contributing factors to his lead in the poll.
With the 2028 presidential election still more than two years away, these early polling numbers provide a snapshot of current sentiment within NDC circles but are likely to shift as campaigns develop and party dynamics evolve.
The NDC has not yet announced an official timeline for its flagbearer selection process.
