Why Agradaa’s 15-Year Sentence Was Reduced to 12 Months

February 6 2026

The Amasaman High Court has significantly reduced the custodial sentence imposed on evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, from 15 years to 12 calendar months.

In its judgment, the court upheld Agradaa’s conviction but ruled that the original sentence was excessive under the circumstances of the case. The judge held that while a prison term was justified, the length and conditions attached to the 15-year sentence went beyond what was reasonable and proportionate.

“The punishment imposed was unduly severe,” the court noted, adding that sentencing must balance deterrence with fairness and justice.

As part of the revised sentence, the court further ordered Nana Agradaa to pay a fine of 200 penalty units, amounting to GH¢2,400.

The court clarified that the one-year custodial sentence is to take effect from July 3, 2025 the date of her original conviction—meaning she will serve a total of 12 months in prison.

Nana Agradaa, a former fetish priestess who later rebranded herself as a Christian evangelist, was convicted for offences related to defrauding members of the public under false pretenses.
