Protocol Recruitment in Security Services Will Be Abolished – Asiedu Nketiah
February 2,2026
The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has announced that a future NDC government will abolish the protocol system used in recruiting into the security services and other public institutions.
He made this declaration while addressing party executives and supporters in Sekondi-Takoradi during his ongoing “Thank You Tour” in the Western Region.
On the fourth day of the tour, which covered the Effia, Kwesimintsim, Takoradi, and Sekondi constituencies, Mr. Asiedu Nketiah urged party members to maintain hardworking executives who contributed significantly to the party’s victory in the 2024 general elections.
He stressed that party strength at the grassroots level depends on rewarding dedication and commitment.
“Those who worked hard and diligently should be retained, but those who did otherwise should not be entertained in the party,” he stated.
Touching on recruitment practices, the NDC Chairman criticized the protocol arrangement in the security services, describing it as an unfair system introduced under the previous NPP administration.
According to him, recruitment slots were shared among political actors without public transparency, denying many qualified applicants equal opportunity.
He revealed that President John Mahama has made a bold commitment to end such practices and ensure recruitment is opened to all eligible Ghanaians based strictly on merit.
Mr. Asiedu Nketiah further noted that even the small quota currently allocated to Members of Parliament under the protocol system will be cancelled.
“This change will align with President Mahama’s agenda to ensure that anyone can apply for vacant positions based on merit, without special protocols for anyone,” he added.
During the visit, traditional leaders in the area also appealed to the National Chairman for support in addressing key development challenges. One major concern raised was the urgent completion of the stalled Takoradi Market Circle project.
Nana Obo Kojo Atta IV, Chief of Takoradi, pleaded for the project to be expedited, noting that market women have faced severe hardship since being relocated from their original trading space.
The Chief emphasized that completing the market circle is crucial to restoring livelihoods and easing the burden on traders affected by the delays.
