Mahama Leads Accra Reset Talks at Davos as Global South Leaders Converge

January 21,2026

President John Dramani Mahama is set to lead the first Davos convening of the Accra Reset on Thursday, January 22, 2026, on the margins of the World Economic Forum (WEF) Annual Meeting in Switzerland.

A statement from the Presidency said the Accra Reset is a Global South initiative aimed at strengthening sovereign capacity and redefining international cooperation at a time of mounting global challenges, including climate shocks, rising living costs, pandemics, conflicts, and escalating geopolitical tensions.

President Mahama, who chairs the Presidential Council of the Accra Reset, will be joined by several world leaders attending the side event. They include President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt, President William Ruto of Kenya, and President Félix Tshisekedi of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Nigeria will be represented by Vice President Kashim Shettima, while Papua New Guinea’s Prime Minister, James Marape, is also expected to participate.

Former heads of state forming the Guardians Circle of the Accra Reset will also be present. They include former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, former New Zealand Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Helen Clark, former Mauritian President Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, and former Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf.

The Davos meeting will mark the launch of priority programmes under the Accra Reset, following its introduction at the 2025 United Nations General Assembly and endorsement at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Johannesburg.

The Presidency noted that President Mahama views the Accra Reset as complementary to his domestic reform agenda, the Resetting Ghana Agenda, stressing that effective national governance requires both internal reforms and a more equitable international system.

President Mahama has repeatedly emphasized that sovereignty entails the ability of nations to pursue their development priorities while forging strategic partnerships, particularly within Africa and across the Global South, to advance shared interests.

The statement was signed by the Minister for Government Communications and Spokesperson to the President, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
