NPP Primaries: Suhum Delegate Alleges Aspirant Gave Him ‘Fake’ Currency in Envelope

January 31, 2026

A delegate participating in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) presidential primaries in the Suhum Constituency has alleged that an envelope handed to him by one of the party’s flagbearer aspirants contained a fake currency note.

The allegation emerged in a video currently circulating on social media and sighted by VistaNewsGH.com, showing the delegate displaying torn pieces of what he claimed was a counterfeit Ghana cedi note. The delegate alleged that the envelope was given to him as part of an interaction with an aspirant ahead of voting.

In the video, the delegate expressed shock and disappointment, insisting that the contents of the envelope were not genuine currency. He did not, however, clearly identify the aspirant involved.

“This is what they gave me in the envelope. Look at it carefully,” the delegate was heard saying as he showed the torn note to others at the polling area.

The development has sparked widespread reactions among party supporters online, with many calling for investigations into alleged inducement attempts during the internal elections.

As of the time of filing this report, the NPP leadership and the alleged aspirant have not issued any official response to the claims. No verification has also been made by electoral officials at the polling centre regarding the authenticity of the currency shown in the video.

The New Patriotic Party is holding its presidential primaries nationwide today, with over 211,000 delegates voting to elect a flagbearer for the December 7, 2028 general election.

Party officials have consistently warned aspirants and their supporters against any actions that could undermine the credibility of the internal electoral process.

The allegation has renewed debate about the state of the New Patriotic Party, echoing earlier comments by former Minister of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, who recently described the NPP as a “fake party taken over by rebels.”

While Prof Frimpong-Boateng did not reference the Suhum incident directly, critics say the allegation of fake currency being circulated during the primaries appears to reinforce his claim that the party has departed from its founding values.

Supporters of the party, however, argue that the allegation remains unproven and should not be used to generalise the conduct of the entire NPP or its leadership.

As of now, no official investigation findings have been released regarding the Suhum delegate’s claim, and the party has yet to issue a formal response to the renewed criticism.
