Adu Boahene’s Case: Kan-Dapaah Key to the Matter – Atta Akyea

Accra, September 15, 2025

Lawyer for embattled former Director of National Signals Bureau, Kwabena Adu-Boahene, Samuel Atta Akyea, has described former National Security Minister, Albert Kan-Dapaah, as a “very critical individual” in the ongoing case involving his client.

According to Atta Akyea, the prosecution’s approach appears “upside down” since Kan-Dapaah should have been the first person called as a witness if the allegations were genuine.

“Right now, it should be Kan-Dapaah complaining that Adu-Boahene was a rogue security operative. If this is a crime, then the first prosecution witness should be Kan-Dapaah,” Atta Akyea argued.

The lead counsel insisted that his client’s actions were justified and explained that they were carried out under the watch of Kan-Dapaah as National Security Minister. He added that much of the controversy surrounding the account in question could only be clarified by Kan-Dapaah himself.

“They (the prosecution) did not even understand why the account was opened. Do you know who should come and interpret this? Kan-Dapaah,” he stressed.

Atta Akyea further accused the Attorney General of engaging in “theatrics,” citing Adu-Boahene’s arrest at Kotoka International Airport in handcuffs as an unnecessary display.

“I’ve never seen an Attorney General who thinks theatrics is equal to competence,” he remarked.

He also disclosed that the National Security Coordinator, Kyeremeh, sanctioned certain undercover operations which involved transferring funds and authorizing the account in question.

The case, which has attracted significant public interest, continues to stir debate over the role of national security operations and the accountability of senior government officials.
