EPA Tops Ghana’s First Public Financial Management Compliance League Table

March 20,2026

The Environmental Protection Authority Ghana has emerged as the top-ranked institution in Ghana’s newly introduced Public Financial Management (PFM) Compliance League Table released by the Ministry of Finance Ghana.

The ranking, announced in a press release dated March 19, 2026, places the EPA at the forefront of institutions demonstrating strong adherence to public financial management laws, including the PFM Act, 2016 (Act 921).

The league table, described by the Ministry as a transparency and accountability tool, assesses how public institutions comply with established financial regulations and procedures governing the use of public funds.

Following the EPA in the “Highly Compliant” category are Tema Oil Refinery, the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, the Ministry of Finance, Ghana AIDS Commission, and the Petroleum Hub Development Corporation.

Meanwhile, Cocoa Marketing Company and the Petroleum Commission were listed under the “Compliant” category.

According to the Ministry, the initiative fulfills a commitment outlined in the 2025 Budget Statement to publish objective, performance-based assessments of public institutions. It is also intended to promote fiscal discipline, enhance transparency, and encourage continuous improvement across the public sector.

The Ministry further indicated that institutions with lower compliance levels will be engaged to address gaps in their financial management systems, with stricter enforcement measures expected going forward.

The introduction of the PFM Compliance League Table marks a significant step in government’s efforts to strengthen accountability and improve the management of public resources.
