The Ghana Police Service has arrested ten suspects believed to be part of a notorious criminal syndicate behind a wave of armed robberies on rural and community banks across the country.
According to the police, the arrests were the result of months of intelligence gathering, surveillance, and coordinated operations in multiple regions. Investigators uncovered a consistent pattern in the robberies, which targeted rural financial institutions and endangered staff and customers alike.
The operation, which extended to the Brong Ahafo, Western, Central, Eastern, and Ashanti regions, also resulted in the death of three suspects who opened fire on the police during a shootout earlier this month.
Police officials confirmed that the ten suspects are currently in custody and assisting with investigations. They are expected to be arraigned before court once the investigations are completed.
The police assured the public of their continued commitment to dismantling criminal networks that threaten financial institutions, particularly those serving rural communities.
