Bawumia Defends Electoral Record Ahead of NPP Primary

October 27, 2025

Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has strongly rejected criticism of his electoral performance, declaring himself the New Patriotic Party's best-performing flagbearer with a 41% record as he campaigns for the party's upcoming presidential primary.

Speaking to delegates at the Berekum College of Education Auditorium during his campaign tour of the Bono Region, the former Vice President dismissed allegations that he was the "worst performing flagbearer" in the 2024 elections as false and unsupported by data.

Strong Claims on Electoral Performance

Dr. Bawumia argued that comparing all NPP presidential candidates from Adu Boahen through President Kufuor to the present, his 41% showing in the last election represented the party's strongest performance.

"All those allegations against me are untrue and those alleging them do not have the data backing their claims," he told the Berekum East delegates, urging them to focus on his "demonstrated capabilities" rather than what he termed lies and false information.

Delegate Support Shifts

The visit marks a significant turnaround for Dr. Bawumia in Berekum East, where delegates voted against him in the November 4, 2023 NPP presidential primaries. Constituency Chairman Mr. Kwaku Kamkam assured that delegates would not "repeat the mistake" and pledged full support for Bawumia's candidature this time.

The former Vice President received what observers described as a massive turnout of delegates during his constituency visit.

Primary Race Heats Up

With five candidates vying for the NPP flagbearer position, Dr. Bawumia positioned himself as the frontrunner, stating he currently holds "the candidature baton" which none of his opponents can take from him except through false allegations.

The NPP presidential primary is scheduled for January 31, 2026, as the party seeks to select its candidate for future elections.

Dr. Bawumia called on all delegates to rally behind his candidature, emphasizing his track record and urging them to make their decision based on facts rather than unsubstantiated claims circulating about his electoral performance.
