EPA Boosts Operations with Delivery of 40 Pickup Vehicles

 April 22, 2026

The Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) has received 40 new Mitsubishi L200 pickup trucks, part of an 80-vehicle fleet acquired to strengthen its enforcement and operational activities across the country.

The acquisition represents a major step in addressing the Authority’s long-standing logistical challenges, which have previously hindered effective monitoring, inspections, and enforcement. With the new vehicles, the EPA is expected to improve its field presence, response times, and overall regulatory effectiveness.

This development coincides with the EPA’s ongoing decentralisation drive, which includes the establishment of additional district offices nationwide. The initiative is aimed at enhancing environmental oversight, improving accessibility to services, and ensuring more efficient governance at the local level.

Chief Executive Officer, Professor Nana Ama Browne Klutse, stated that the investment reflects a strategic effort to align the Authority’s resources with its expanding operational needs. She noted that the vehicles are suitable for the demanding conditions associated with enforcement work.

She added that the EPA is not only expanding its physical presence but also strengthening its internal systems to improve efficiency and service delivery.

Alongside the logistics upgrade, the Authority is advancing a digital transformation programme to streamline its operations. The transition from manual to digital processing of permits, certifications, and licences has reduced delays, improved transparency, and enhanced compliance monitoring. The system has also contributed to increased revenue mobilisation.

EPA officials describe the combined efforts expansion of district offices, improved logistics, and digitalisation as a comprehensive strategy to position the Authority as a more responsive and data-driven regulator capable of addressing emerging environmental challenges.

Since taking office, Prof. Klutse has spearheaded reforms aimed at enhancing the EPA’s performance and accountability. Under her leadership, the Authority has been recognised among Ghana’s top-performing public institutions, particularly for its compliance with the Public Financial Management (PFM) Compliance League Table.

Head of Risk and Strategy, Sydney Danso, emphasised that strict guidelines have been implemented to ensure the proper use and maintenance of the vehicles. He noted that accountability measures, including performance monitoring and maintenance protocols, have been introduced to ensure the long-term efficiency and value of the investment.
