Ghanaian Diplomat Arrives in South Korea for Historic Posting

October 17, 2025

In a moment described as "a K-Drama unfolding," Ghana's newly appointed diplomat has arrived in South Korea to begin a mission aimed at strengthening ties between the two nations.

The diplomat, who was born in Korea but raised in Ghana, arrived at the airport where he was warmly received by the Chairman of the Korea-Africa Foundation and fellow Ghanaian diplomatic staff. The official conveyed greetings from the Ghanaian President to those assembled for the welcoming ceremony.

A Bridge Between Two Nations

Speaking about his unique position, the diplomat reflected on his dual connection to both countries. "I return to Korea, the land who gave birth to me, as a representative of Ghana, my new mother who raised me," he said. "Two mothers, one calling, and one purpose that connects both nations."

The posting comes after a meeting with the President of Ghana, where the diplomat received his mandate and full briefing on his responsibilities in Seoul.

Symbolic Dress Code

In a deliberate statement of cultural diplomacy, the diplomat has chosen a distinctive wardrobe for his tenure in Korea. He will wear colorful African Wax, Tie & Dye shirts paired with a Kente-made bow tie throughout his posting.

The bow tie, he explained, symbolizes "the flutter of butterfly wings," representing his hope that Ghana and Korea will continue to develop their relationship as "brother nations."

Mission of Partnership

The diplomat emphasized that his arrival marks the beginning of "the real journey" — one focused on faith, purpose, and partnership between Ghana and Korea.

"My mission to make my mother Ghana proud in Korea begins now," he declared, ending with the Ga expression "Tsoboi!" — a rallying cry meaning "let's go" or "let's do this."

Growing Ghana-Korea Relations

The posting comes at a time of increasing cooperation between African nations and South Korea, with the Korea-Africa Foundation playing a key role in fostering diplomatic, economic, and cultural exchanges across the continent.

The diplomat's unique background and cultural approach signal a new chapter in Ghana-Korea relations, built on personal connection and mutual respect between the two nations.

The diplomat will be based in Seoul and will work to strengthen bilateral cooperation in areas including trade, development, and cultural exchange.
