Abronye DC’s Arrest: Edudzi Tamakloe Says He Must Face Police, Not Hide Behind Government

The Chief Executive Officer of the Petroleum Commission and NDC Director of Legal Affairs, Lawyer Edudzi Tamakloe, has weighed in on the recent arrest of Abronye DC, stressing that the outspoken politician must deal directly with the police and not drag government into his troubles.

Speaking on TV3’s flagship programme Keypoints, Mr. Tamakloe dismissed claims that Abronye’s arrest has political undertones, insisting that he is a private individual and not a government official. “Abronye has nothing to do with government. If he has crossed the line, he should face the police,” Tamakloe stated.

The NDC legal director contrasted Abronye’s situation with a case during the NPP’s tenure where an NDC branch secretary in Sowutoum was arrested and swiftly sentenced to four years imprisonment for allegedly insulting IGP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare. According to him, that incident, which denied the accused bail and rushed through trial, highlighted selective justice under the NPP.

Mr. Tamakloe also criticised former Attorney General Godfred Dame and Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin, questioning their moral authority to comment on the rule of law after presiding over such episodes.

He maintained that Abronye’s arrest should be treated strictly within the legal framework without political interference, as part of strengthening Ghana’s democratic institutions.
