Ken Agyapong Blasts Bawumia Over NPP’s 1.7 Million Vote Disaster
Former Assin Central MP and aspiring presidential candidate, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, has taken direct aim at former Vice President and 2024 NPP presidential candidate, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, over the party’s devastating electoral defeat.

In a fiery post on X (formerly Twitter), Agyapong reminded Ghanaians that the NPP lost over 1.7 million votes in the last election a loss that, according to him, cannot be explained away by shallow justifications. He accused Dr. Bawumia of downplaying the real causes of the defeat and hiding behind a confidential report authored by former Speaker of Parliament, Professor Mike Ocquaye.

“Over 1.7 MILLION vote loss. Dr. Bawumia says it wasn’t the flagbearer, religion or tribe. He knows this because of Mike Ocquaye’s report, which only he seems to have read. So, since you’re the sole custodian of the ‘truth,’ please enlighten us,” Agyapong fired.

The attack exposes deepening cracks within the NPP as it reels from the electoral humiliation. Many grassroots supporters believe leadership missteps, reckless spending, and disconnection from the ordinary Ghanaian fueled the party’s downfall not merely technical factors.

Dr. Bawumia, who served as Vice President under former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and later led the party into the 2024 elections, is currently seeking another shot at the presidency. However, Agyapong’s critique casts doubt on whether he can rally the party back to strength after such a historic defeat.

Agyapong, now positioning himself as the straight-talking alternative, insists that the NPP must confront uncomfortable truths if it hopes to recover. His comments have reignited fierce debate among party loyalists about accountability, leadership, and the way forward ahead of the next election cycle.
