The World's Largest Free Trade Agreement

The EU and thus Sweden have advanced negotiations with India regarding a free trade agreement between the parties.

After Trump's tariffs, the EU and India have agreed to accelerate negotiations on a free trade agreement.

After stalled negotiations, a free trade agreement with India can now be concluded - after 18 years of attempts and failures.

The trade negotiations between the EU and India began in 2007 but stalled in 2013.

India has criticized the EU, among other things, for setting too high demands when it comes to environmental protection and working conditions.

After a break of almost a decade, the talks resumed in 2022.

18 years after the first attempt and several failures, the EU and India have now set a goal of concluding a free trade agreement before the end of this year.

It would then be the world's largest of its kind, according to EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.

The EU is currently India's largest trading partner. For the EU, India is the ninth most important partner in terms of trade in goods.
