Vice President to Visit Avenor Building Collapse Site Amid Ongoing Rescue Efforts

May 7,2026

Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang is scheduled to visit the site of the collapsed building at Avenor in North Kaneshie as emergency teams continue search and rescue operations.

The three-storey building, located near Melcom Plus and opposite the Ashfoam showroom, collapsed in the early hours of Sunday, June 7. The structure is reported to have served as both a residential facility and a mosque.

The incident has claimed at least one life, while several individuals have been rescued from the wreckage and taken to safety.

Rescue personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service and other emergency agencies remain on the ground, working to locate possible survivors amid concerns that more people may still be trapped beneath the debris.

During her visit, the Vice President is expected to assess the situation firsthand and receive briefings from emergency officials overseeing the rescue mission.

Authorities have assured the public that every effort is being made to rescue any remaining victims and determine the circumstances that led to the collapse.
