Ghana Marks 4.29 Green Earth Action Day with Focus on Environmental Education and Tree Planting
April 29,2026
Ghana has joined the global community in commemorating the 4.29 Green Earth Action Day, an international initiative promoting climate action, environmental sustainability, and social cohesion.
The event in Ghana was held at Afienya Mateheko Primary School, where pupils, teachers, and volunteers participated in activities aimed at raising awareness on environmental protection.

The programme featured art exhibitions by pupils, including drawing and colouring exercises centred on environmental themes. Participants were also educated on the importance of sustainable practices such as tree planting, recycling, and the need to prevent deforestation.
Speaking at the event, Elizabeth Botchwey, Ghana Ambassador for the Green Earth Action Foundation Cohort 26, emphasised the significance of the initiative in promoting climate awareness and responsible environmental behaviour.
Also addressing the gathering, Ricarda Naa Teiko Nartey of the Forestry Commission of Ghana urged participants to protect the environment by avoiding indiscriminate tree felling and embracing tree planting as a sustainable practice.
As part of the activities, reusable flasks were distributed to pupils to encourage a reduction in the use of single-use plastics, particularly sachet water.
The celebration also included tree planting exercises and environmental education sessions designed to instil eco-friendly habits among students.
The 4.29 Green Earth Action Day is an initiative of the Green Earth Action Foundation aimed at promoting climate action, peace, diversity, unity, and environmental responsibility across communities worldwide.
