Vice President Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang Enstooled as Owoabrempong Kru-Kow I of Komenda

The Komenda Traditional Area today witnessed a colourful and historic event as Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, was enstooled as Owoabrempong Kru-Kow I. The ceremony, held on Saturday, September 13, 2025, blended Ghana’s rich cultural heritage with contemporary politics, marking a symbolic recognition of the Vice President’s service and leadership.

Draped in majestic kente and adorned with traditional regalia, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang was carried in procession before chiefs, queen mothers, government officials, and hundreds of community members who thronged the durbar grounds to celebrate her elevation. Her stool name, Owoabrempong Kru-Kow I, signifies a leader of wisdom, courage, and responsibility;values the chiefs and people believe she embodies.

Traditional leaders praised her for her contributions to education, women’s empowerment, and national development, highlighting her trailblazing role as Ghana’s first female Vice President. “This honour is not just for her as an individual, but for the progress of women and the pride of Komenda,” one chief remarked.

The enstoolment also carries political undertones. With elections on the horizon, the symbolic unification of chieftaincy and governance underscores the importance of cultural legitimacy in Ghana’s democratic landscape.
