GH₵427m Payroll Error Leaves Frank Kpodo’s Reputation in Ruins – Lawyer

April 22,2026

Legal counsel for Frank Oliver Kpodo, Prince Ganaku, has expressed concern over the severe reputational damage his client has suffered following the controversial GH₵427 million payroll error.

His comments come after the Office of the Auditor-General issued a formal apology, admitting the figure was published in error. Despite the correction, Ganaku says the impact on his client has already been far-reaching.

He explained that the initial report triggered widespread outrage, particularly on social media, where Mr. Kpodo was subjected to intense criticism and offensive accusations. In some cases, comments escalated to dangerous levels, with individuals making extreme statements against him.

According to the lawyer, the allegations spread rapidly across digital platforms, gaining international attention and amplifying the damage to his client’s public image.

Ganaku further criticised the approach taken by The Fourth Estate, arguing that the report appeared to assume wrongdoing early on, while his client’s response and supporting evidence were only briefly mentioned later.

The issue originated from a national payroll audit which initially linked Mr. Kpodo to GH₵427,995,661.40 in unearned salary. However, authorities later clarified that the amount was due to a transpositional error and actually related to discrepancies involving staff under the Ministry of Education not Mr. Kpodo.

Although an apology has been issued, Ganaku remains uncertain whether it will be enough to repair the lasting damage to his client’s reputation.
