Grassroots Concerns Mount Within NDC Over Recognition and Inclusion

March 9,2026

Some grassroots members of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have expressed growing concerns about recognition and inclusion following the party’s return to power after years in opposition.

In a strongly worded message circulating among party supporters, a grassroots member cautioned party leaders about the importance of prioritizing the welfare and satisfaction of core supporters, particularly in constituencies that play decisive roles during elections. The message stressed that when a political party forms a parliamentary majority through swing constituencies, leadership must ensure that loyal members who contributed to the victory feel valued and included.

The statement further suggested that if grassroots members continue to feel sidelined, it would indicate that the party may not have learned important lessons during its eight years in opposition to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

The writer also noted that current branch executives are different from those of the early years of the party, emphasizing that grassroots structures today are more aware and attentive to how party affairs are managed.

According to the message, many party activists who played key roles in the campaign to return the NDC to power have yet to receive recognition or opportunities more than a year after the party assumed office.

The statement directly referenced Mustapha Gbande, indicating that a message sent to him in October 2025 had not received a response, which the writer cited as an example of the frustrations some supporters are experiencing.

Despite the criticism, the message called on party leaders to take proactive steps to address the concerns of grassroots members to avoid repeating past mistakes and to strengthen unity within the party.

Political observers note that managing expectations among grassroots supporters often becomes a key challenge for political parties after electoral victories, particularly when supporters anticipate recognition and participation in governance.
